Sushi and Washoku Okame
Sushi and Washoku Okame, located at Okunugi crossing across from McDonald’s, was initially a sushi restaurant. However, a few years ago, the proprietor decided to expand the menu to include a variety of Japanese dishes beyond sush. The restaurant is dedicated to using locally sourced seasonal ingredients.
Over thirty local seasonal ingredients are expertly prepared and offered in various ways – grilled, simmered, deep fried, mixed, or served as sushi… They provide the optimal way to appreciate the quality of ingredients depending also on the season, temperature, and condition of the ingredients.
They also provide recommendations for the best sake parings with the dishes you order.
“There’s no other shop like this in Yamanashi Prefecture!” boasts the owner. This is due to his active participation in the Yamanashi Chefs’ Club for the past ten years. He has been engaged in activities such as visiting producers for “bento” projects, aiming to make lunches using locally sourced ingredients. His extensive involvement ensures a comprehensive knowledge of all things related to food grown and produced in Yamanashi Prefecture.”
Look at the geographical map of Japan. You will notice that Yamanashi Prefecture doesn’t face the ocean. However, Yamanashi is known as the prefecture where there are the most sushi restaurants per person. Fish was brought through the Fuji river.
A must-try is “Fuji-no-suke”, fresh-water fish that is locally invented and farmed. It is a mixture of king salmon and rainbow trout.
Here you can eat an abundant selection of delicious seasonal ingredients Koshu beef, Fujiyama Foothills beef, Fuji Sakura pork, and Shinshu locally produced poultry.
Of course, they arrange the menu to be suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
